NLC Blames Power Ministry, NERC for Unending Grid Collapses

  • The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) blames the Power Ministry and National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for the frequent grid collapses in the country.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has attributed the recurring grid collapses in Nigeria to the incompetence of the Power Ministry and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The NLC also rejected the proposed allocation of N8 billion for sensitizing consumers on electricity bill payments, labeling it a waste and corrupt practice ยน.

According to the NLC, the Power Ministry’s request for N8 billion to educate Nigerians on paying electricity bills is unnecessary, especially when contractors who delivered capacity to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are owed over N200 billion.

The NLC has demanded a comprehensive audit of the power sector budget to uncover potential corruption and financial recklessness. They have also challenged the Power Minister to disclose the dividends received from privatized power companies since 2013.

The NLC’s statement emphasized that the power sector is on the brink of collapse due to gross incompetence and that the proposed N8 billion allocation is a slap in the face of hardworking Nigerians struggling to make ends meet.
