The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) is pushing for a collaborative effort between the Ondo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Mines and Solid Minerals to unlock the state’s vast mineral resources. According to NUPRC’s CEO, Gbenga Komolafe, this partnership is crucial for economic development and positioning Ondo State as a key player in the global energy landscape.

Ondo State boasts an impressive array of minerals, including oil, gas, bitumen, quartz sand, clay, talc, granite, limestone, kaolin, coal, columbite, tin, feldspar, gemstones, and gypsum. Komolafe stresses the importance of advancing policies that support partnerships and attract investments, citing successful strategies from leading bitumen producers like the United States, China, Russia, Canada, India, and Malaysia.

To achieve this vision, Komolafe recommends:

  • Close Partnership: Between Ondo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Mines and Solid Minerals to pursue international collaborations and accelerate development.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Government, investors, and industry stakeholders must work together to unlock opportunities for leveraging energy resources and market potential.

By fostering this collaboration, Ondo State and Nigeria can become a regional energy hub, capitalizing on the state’s abundant natural wealth and population.
