    Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has directed government hospitals to provide free treatment to those injured in a stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja. The stampede occurred during a food distribution event, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives, including children, and injuring 10 others .

    Wike has also directed that police permission must be obtained for public distribution of palliatives to prevent such incidents in the future. He commended the police and security agencies for their prompt response to the incident .

    The FCT Emergency Management Department has appealed to organizations distributing food items to involve security agencies for adequate planning and safety measures. They also advised using coupons and segregating beneficiaries into groups to avoid crowds and rowdiness .
