Ogun State pensioners are seeking inclusion in the National Health Insurance Scheme, urging Governor Dapo Abiodun to provide health relief to alleviate their suffering. The pensioners, led by Waidi Oloyede, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Ogun State, made this plea during the Pensioners’ Day celebration in Abeokuta.
The pensioners are struggling to afford healthcare due to the meager sums they receive, which are insufficient to purchase drugs for various health challenges. Oloyede emphasized that most senior citizens battle health issues and need relief, requesting a 50% discount for retirees subscribing to the scheme.
Oloyede commended Governor Abiodun for addressing unpaid pensions, releasing N500m quarterly, increased to N2bn, and recently N5.3bn. The pensioners hope the governor will also address their health concerns.
Key Aspects of the Request:
- Inclusion in National Health Insurance Scheme
- 50% discount for retirees subscribing to the scheme
- Health relief to alleviate suffering
- Addressing unpaid pensions
By including pensioners in the health insurance scheme, the Ogun State government can provide much-needed relief and support to its senior citizens.
