“Onoharigho Highlights Transportation and Logistics as Crucial for AfCFTA Success”

As Enisuoh Sensitizes Manufacturers on Carbon Credit, Dr. Anthony Onoharigho, Deputy Registrar of the Liberian Maritime Authority, has emphasized that transportation and logistics are key sectors vital for Nigeria to achieve the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

  • Onoharigho made this statement during the second edition of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL) held on Thursday in Lagos, themed “AfCFTA – Dismantling Barriers, Navigating Regional Trade.” He noted, “The transport sector is undermined.
  • To move goods within the country is a problem, and now thinking about Africa, so we need to make things seamless by removing barriers.” He pointed out that while Nigeria has a competitive advantage as an oil producer, the lack of vessels to transport oil outside the country poses a significant constraint.
  • Dr. Alban Igwe, a member of the United Nations Committee on Trade and Transport Location, remarked that Nigeria has the potential to become a logistics hub if all barriers are dismantled.
  • He stressed the importance of addressing issues that hinder progress so that Nigeria can secure its share of global trade.
  • “Today’s conversation is very important; it is a wake-up call for Nigeria as the country is under a global threat, while other African blocs are doing well, Nigeria is struggling,” he added. Capt. Warredi Enisuoh also contributed to the discussion.
