Osimhen is now the sixth Nigerian to play for Galatasaray.

Victor Osimhen has finally wrapped up his transfer drama by moving to Turkish side Galatasaray on a four-month loan from Napoli. He becomes the sixth Nigerian to wear the Cimbom jersey. He’s definitely a talented player who has been making waves since his move to Napoli from Lille in 2020, helping them secure their first league title in over 30 years. He’s a goal-scoring machine! Big clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG, Man United, and Liverpool have all shown interest in him. He’s a sought-after player in Europe.

Osimhen is expected to make his debut for the Turkish giants immediately after the international break when they take on Rizespor on September 15, becoming the sixth Nigerian to turn out for the Cimbom, as they are fondly called. It will be interesting to see how he performs for his new club!

Dominic Iorfa, a retired Eagles striker, became the first Nigerian to play for the club, spending only eight months there before moving to Peterborough in 1992. During his brief stint, Iorfa scored three goals in nine games. It wasn’t until 26 years later that another Nigerian, Henry Onyekuru, joined Galatasaray in 2018 from Everton. Onyekuru, the most successful Nigerian player at the club, scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 71 appearances, winning the Turkish Super Lig and the League Cup.Shortly after, Valentine Ozornwafor joined Galatasaray from Enyimba in 2019.

Despite high expectations, Ozornwafor struggled to make an impact, making just one appearance during his three-year tenure and spending most of his time out on loan.In 2020, Oghenekaro Etebo and Jesse Sekidika also joined the team. Etebo, on loan from Stoke City, played 29 games, while Sekidika made 19 appearances and scored a goal before departing after a year.

With Osimhen’s signing, fans are in for another exciting taste of Nigerian talent at Galatasaray.
