The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has launched a groundbreaking 510kWp mini-grid system in Osun State, Nigeria, to provide 24-hour electricity to four communities: Elegbejoda, Mefoworade, Olorunshogo, and Omifunfun. This project is part of the Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (IMAS) and is funded by a €9.3 million in-kind grant from the European Union, supported by the German Cooperation .
The initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s interconnected mini-grid market and expand clean energy access to approximately 125,000 people. Beyond residential electricity supply, the 510kWp mini-grid will power businesses, schools, and healthcare centers, fostering socio-economic growth in the benefiting communities.

The agency has been working on various projects, including the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), which aims to electrify 300,000 households and 30,000 local enterprises through mini-grids .
