Newly appointed US Men’s National Team head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has set an ambitious target for his squad: to win the World Cup. The Argentine coach, known for his successful stints at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain, believes that setting the highest goal possible will galvanize his players.
Pochettino, who was unveiled as the new coach on Friday, emphasized the importance of belief and ambition in achieving success. He drew inspiration from the US women’s team, which recently won Olympic gold, and expressed his desire to match their achievements.
With the US co-hosting the 2026 World Cup, Pochettino has less than two years to turn around the fortunes of a team that has struggled in recent games. However, he remains optimistic, stating that there is enough time to prepare and implement a new philosophy.
The coach also announced that he would have an open mind towards team selection, monitoring players worldwide and giving them a chance to prove themselves. Pochettino’s first task will be to select a squad for two friendly matches in October against Panama and Mexico.
