The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced that it will embark on a two-week warning strike beginning from December 2, 2024. This decision was made in response to the government’s failure to address ASUP’s 11-item demands.
According to ASUP President, Kpanja Shamnah, the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) held its 112th session to review the current status of their engagements with proprietors of public polytechnics. Shamnah stated that the issues listed by the union include sustained reports of impunity and disrespect of clear provisions of the Federal Polytechnics Act.
The strike is expected to affect polytechnics nationwide, and ASUP has warned that it may embark on an indefinite strike if the government fails to address their demands.
