The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has given the federal government a 21-day ultimatum, threatening to shut down 110 federal government colleges (FGCs) over poor welfare conditions. The ASCSN is demanding improved working conditions, payment of outstanding arrears, and regularization of appointments.
The union’s Secretary General, Joshua Apebo, expressed frustration over the federal ministry of education’s refusal to address the welfare issues, despite repeated requests since 2023. The ASCSN has vowed to order workers in the institutions to down tools and commence a nationwide strike if the government fails to address its demands.
Key demands include payment of promotion, salary, and elongation arrears, regularization of appointment of PTA teachers, payment of transport allowance and DTA to FEQAS staff, and reduction of exorbitant medical fees charged by the HMO.
