Ngizwe Mchunu apologises for defamatory remarks after contempt of court ruling
Former media personality Ngizwe Mchunu apologised to EFF leader Julius Malema and the Gauteng High Court for defamatory remarks, after being found guilty of contempt of court.
Former media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has apologised to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema for previous defamatory remarks, extending his apology to the Gauteng High Court for putting it into disrepute.
On Friday, 5 June 2026, the court found Mchunu guilty of contempt of court. Judge Etienne Christoffel Labuschagne ruled that Mchunu "intentionally and unlawfully republished prohibited statements" after earlier court orders.
The court issued an immediate warrant of arrest and ordered Mchunu to be detained for 10 days. However, Judge Labuschagne also ruled that he can avoid jail time if he publicly apologises on all social media platforms he has used in the last six months.
Mchunu said the focus should not be shifted to his possible arrest, but on undocumented immigrants in the country.
