Nigerian Court Rules N110bn Lawmaker Vehicle and Allowance Scheme Improper

A Nigerian court has held that the N40 billion spent on 465 vehicles for lawmakers and N70 billion in support allowances for newly elected members did not comply with due process and lacked transparency and value-for-money standards.

A Nigerian court has ruled that the National Assembly’s ₦110 billion vehicle and allowance scheme did not comply with due process requirements.

The case involved ₦40 billion reportedly spent on 465 vehicles for lawmakers and ₦70 billion allocated as support allowances for newly elected members of the National Assembly.

According to the court, the spending failed to meet the required standards of transparency, accountability, and value for money expected in public expenditure.
