SARS intercepted about 90 bricks of suspected cocaine concealed inside heavy-duty excavation equipment imported from South America at the Port of Durban.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has intercepted a consignment suspected to contain cocaine at the Port of Durban. SARS says the shipment, of about 90 large bricks of the drug, was discovered during the inspection of heavy-duty excavation equipment imported from South America. Detector dogs alerted customs officials to suspicious parcels concealed inside two excavators.

The material has been seized and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for forensic analysis and criminal investigation. SARS says details about the value and intended destination of the consignment will be confirmed once laboratory testing is complete.
