Reforming the transport sector and creating jobs to ease Nigerians’ hardships in 2025, FG urged

    Ismaila Yusuf Atus, Managing Director of XpressRide, a transport company, has called on the Nigerian government to prioritize reforms in the country’s transportation sector in 2025. In his New Year message, Atus emphasized the need for a more affordable, safer, and efficient transport system, citing the challenges Nigerians faced in 2024 with escalating fuel prices and limited ride availability.

    Atus urged the government to develop a system where citizens can track their rides in real-time and feel secure during their travels. He also called for job creation within the transportation sector, highlighting the potential for a well-developed ride-hailing industry to offer employment opportunities for the country’s youth.

    Furthermore, Atus advocated for the adoption of fuel-efficient vehicles tailored to Nigerian roads, which would not only lower transportation costs but also promote sustainability in the sector.

    The Nigerian government has allocated N256.8 billion to the transportation sector in the 2025 budget, with plans to spend N50 million on a CNG conversion program and N1 billion on the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement . Additionally, Nigeria aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and has pledged to have all new sales of cars and vans be zero-emissions by 2040 .
