Rep Urges INEC to Probe Minister Over Alleged Poll Result Forgery

  • Allegations of Forgery: A member of the House of Representatives, Amobi Ogah, has called on INEC to investigate Minister of State for Labour, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, over alleged forgery of polling unit results.
  • Election Petition Tribunal: The allegations relate to documents submitted at the Election Petition Tribunal, which the minister allegedly used to attempt to overturn the election outcome.
  • INEC’s Role: Ogah has asked INEC to investigate and prosecute the minister if found guilty, emphasizing the need to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

The lawmaker alleges that Onyejeocha submitted results from 63 polling units that appeared to bear INEC certification but were reportedly disclaimed by the commission’s ICT Unit in Abuja. Ogah claims that both he and Onyejeocha tendered different sets of results at the tribunal, and the Court of Appeal eventually ruled that the minister’s documents were not authentic INEC documents. Ogah is prepared to submit certified copies of the tribunal’s proceedings and judgments to aid INEC’s investigation.
