River State Governor Sminalayi Fubara
Ahead of the October 5 local government elections in Rivers State, some caretaker committee chairmen loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara have joined the Action People’s Party (APP). This move follows speculation about Fubara’s potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to alleged hijacking of the state PDP structure by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Despite Fubara’s denial of defection plans, several chairmen and supporters have switched to APP. Campaigns have begun, with APP candidates vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions.
APP Chairman Sunny Wokekoro announced the party’s senatorial campaign launch, stating, “APP is the party to beat, and we’re changing the narrative in Rivers State.”
