Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has joined other Nigerians in condemning the recent invasion of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) offices by the Department of State Services (DSS). Adebayo demanded an explanation from the government for the raid, warning against a return to the oppressive tactics of the military regime of General Sani Abacha.
Adebayo expressed his concern on social media, stating that Nigeria cannot revert to the brutal methods of the past. He emphasized the need for law enforcement and the rule of law, calling for an immediate and clear explanation from the government.
Other notable figures, including human rights lawyer Femi Falana and Senator Shehu Sani, have also condemned the invasion, emphasizing the need for the government to respect the rights of human rights defenders as outlined in the Nigerian Constitution.
