Tragedy struck in Ibadan, Oyo State, this morning, October 14, 2024, when a devastating road accident claimed the lives of six people and left five others injured. The accident involved a trailer carrying tiles, a lorry loaded with soft drinks, and two tricycles, which collided at Oke Eleshin, Amuloko on Akanran Road, in the Ona Ara Local Government Area .
According to eyewitnesses, the trailer lost control due to brake failure while descending a slope, crushing one tricycle, and another lorry conveying soft drinks hit and crushed another tricycle in an attempt to avoid the trailer . The injured victims, including a pupil who lost his mother, were rushed to Amuloko City Hospital, where two primary school children were treated as out-patients and two others with severe injuries are receiving treatment .
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the incident, and an investigation is likely underway. Sympathizers have blamed the drivers, who are currently at large, for the accident, suggesting that it could have been minimized if the trailer driver had swerved into a ditch instead of facing the incoming tricycle .
