President Bola Tinubu has highlighted the significance of sports in driving youth development and economic growth, emphasizing its role as a powerful tool for nation-building. This statement was made during the declaration of the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo.

The festival, organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), marks the commission’s 25th anniversary. Tinubu commended the NDDC for its foresight in supporting the event, noting that sports are not just about competition but also serve as a powerful tool for youth development, community engagement, and economic growth.

The development aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms for the sports sector. Tinubu also applauded the Akwa Ibom Government for hosting the festival, recognizing the state’s reputation as a sports destination for international competitions, particularly football.

In his remarks, the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, emphasized the region’s potential, not only in terms of natural resources but also human capital. He noted that the festival demonstrates the NDDC’s commitment to sports development, in addition to infrastructure development.

Momoh highlighted the values promoted by sports, which are fundamental to building a prosperous society. He encouraged athletes to view the festival as an opportunity to showcase their talents.
