The Federal Government has released funds for the payment of withheld salaries of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU) and retirees’ entitlements

•⁠ ⁠Commitment to Workers’ Welfare: The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers, demonstrating this through the approval of outstanding pension liabilities to retired workers of federal government treasury-funded Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) .
•⁠ ⁠Payment of Withheld Salaries: The government has released funds for the payment of withheld salaries of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU) .
•⁠ ⁠Benefits for Retirees: The government has also released funds for the payment of benefits to retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS) .
•⁠ ⁠Welfare Initiatives: The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has introduced various welfare initiatives, including the Federal Public Service Entrepreneurship Programme (FPSEP), the Federal Civil Service Bus Scheme, and the Awards and Recognition Scheme .
•⁠ ⁠Social Insurance: The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) provides social security protection and safety nets for all Nigerians against deprivations and income insecurity .

The Federal Government of Nigeria has released funds to settle the outstanding salaries of members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU) and benefits for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme . Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), confirmed that payments to NASU members have commenced, with several individuals already receiving their dues .

This development comes amidst a nationwide strike by NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), which began on Monday due to unpaid salaries for four months. The strike has brought activities to a standstill in universities across the country. SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim stated that the strike would continue for seven days unless the government addresses the unions’ grievances .

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to catering to the welfare of Nigerian workers and retirees .
