IPOB’s Stance:
- Group only declares sit-at-home for valid reasons.
- IPOB doesn’t threaten Ndigbo.
- Urges public to disregard unauthorized orders.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has come out to deny ordering a sit-at-home exercise for October 21 and 22 in any part of Igbo land. According to IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group only declares sit-at-home orders for valid reasons and always makes public announcements when doing so .
In fact, Powerful urged the public to disregard what he called an “obnoxious order” from criminals trying to tarnish IPOB’s image. He emphasized that IPOB doesn’t threaten its own people, the Ndigbo, and that they should ignore such orders .
Interestingly, this denial comes after commercial activities in Aba, Abia State, were disrupted due to a sit-at-home declared by suspected pro-Biafra organizations. Schools, banks, markets, and other businesses were closed, and major roads were deserted, with combined teams of soldiers and police officers patrolling key areas .
It’s worth noting that IPOB has been known to declare sit-at-home orders in the past, particularly when their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, appears in court. However, in this case, the group is distancing itself from the recent order.
