The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, has made significant strides in combating economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region. Over a one-week operation, troops successfully dismantled 56 illegal oil bunkering sites, seized 88 cooking drums, and recovered a staggering 1.2 million litres of stolen crude oil .
The operation, which took place from November 25 to December 1, 2024, also led to the recovery of over 755,000 litres of stolen crude and 53,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Yenagoa LGA’s Okordia Forest .
Additionally, troops uncovered an illegal connection on a government pipeline in Kula I, Akuku-Toru LGA, and dismantled a tarpaulin reservoir holding over 100,000 litres of stolen crude .
Seventeen suspects were apprehended across the region, with additional seizures of seven vehicles, five motorcycles, boats, pumping machines, and other tools used in illegal refining .
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops for their success and reiterated the Army’s commitment to safeguarding national infrastructure and maintaining security .
