The Zamfara Police has detain alleged Algerian arms dealer, others in Zamfara

The Zamfara Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against transborder arms trafficking with the arrest of a 58-year-old Algerian national. According to Commissioner of Police Mohammed Dalijan, the suspect was apprehended at the Illela border point, and upon search, four AK47 rifles were recovered from him .

Dalijan revealed that the suspect had been involved in this illicit activity for eight years, supplying arms and ammunition to bandits in the northwestern states. This arrest is a culmination of intelligence gathering and raids conducted over the last three weeks, resulting in the recovery of 16 AK47 rifles .

Additionally, the police command tracked down an arms manufacturer in Jos, Plateau, and seized a double barrel and a locally made pistol. Other suspects, including bandits and motorcycle suppliers, were also detained, with live ammunition and N2.5 million cash recovered .

The commissioner emphasized that the ban on illegal mining remains in force, following the detention of illegal gold miners and the recovery of several mining excavators . This operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to tackling the menace of arms trafficking and associated crimes in Zamfara State.
