The Presidency has defended President Bola Tinubu against comments made by Catholic Bishop Matthew Kukah, who described Tinubu and other past leaders as accidental leaders. According to Kukah, these leaders were not fully prepared for office and lacked the necessary knowledge to lead the country effectively.
However, Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, disagreed with Kukah’s assessment, stating that Tinubu was prepared for the office and is doing his best to ensure a turnaround in the country. Onanuga argued that Tinubu has shown a reformer’s attitude, implementing reforms in various areas, including taxation and the oil sector.
Onanuga’s response was prompted by Kukah’s comments during a keynote address at the unveiling of the new Start-Rite School building and the 4th Amaka Ndoma-Egba Memorial Lecture in Abuja. Kukah had cited examples of past leaders who came to power by accident, including Tinubu, Buhari, and Obasanjo .
