A tragic accident occurred on Christmas Day in Gombe, Nigeria, when a commercial bus lost control and rammed into a Christmas procession, injuring 22 people. The Tumfure community celebrants were on their way to the Government House and Gombe Emir’s Palace for homage when the accident happened.
According to Buhari Abdullahi, the spokesperson for Gombe State police, the injured were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with the Commissioner of Police tasking the Motor Traffic Department with a thorough probe. Security forces cordoned off the area, and authorities urged calm.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed sympathy to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the victims, pledging to cover their medical expenses.
In a separate incident, an early morning fire gutted several shops near the General Post Office on Ibokwu Street, Onitsha, in Anambra State, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
