Gen Muhoozi and Al-Sisi confirmed mutual desire to boost bilateral cooperation across various fields, especially in military sphere
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces, recently met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in Cairo to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation. The meeting, attended by Egypt’s Commander-in-Chief General Abdel Megeed Saqr, aimed to enhance joint cooperation and development efforts among African countries.
The two leaders addressed regional and continental issues, focusing on the Nile Basin, Horn of Africa, and East Africa. General Muhoozi conveyed greetings and appreciation from Ugandan President Museveni to President Al-Sisi, who expressed his appreciation for President Museveni and praised the historical relations between Egypt and Uganda.
The meeting comes amid escalating tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia over the use of Nile waters and Ethiopia’s agreement with Somaliland to access the Red Sea. Egypt has deployed military equipment in Somalia in response.
Uganda and Egypt have a history of cooperation, with a military intelligence-sharing agreement announced in 2021. The visit reinforces the importance of cooperation between the two nations, particularly in maintaining regional stability.
General Muhoozi’s meeting with Egyptian army chiefs and President Al-Sisi underscores the shared interests and common goals of the two countries in promoting peace and development in Africa.
