Uromi 16: Northern Elders Demand Justice

  • The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has given a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Monday Okoebholo and the people of Edo State to recover the bodies of the 16 travelers killed in Uromi.
  • The NEF condemned the attack and killing of the travelers, describing it as “barbaric, extra-judicial, and cowardly”.
  • The Forum demands immediate action from the authorities in Edo State and the Federal Government.
  • The NEF’s demands include the swift recovery of the victims’ bodies, arrest and trial of perpetrators, compensation for families, and unreserved apologies from Edo State authorities.

The Northern Elders Forum expressed pain and anger over the attack, stating that the North has tolerated numerous similar acts of violence from some southern parts of Nigeria. The Forum warned that the North will take stringent action in response to this inhumane attack on its people.

The NEF’s spokesperson, Prof Abubakar Jika Jiddere, emphasized that the punishment of the perpetrators must be witnessed by the public to serve as a deterrent to any future acts of violence.
