Victor Osimhen Makes Comeback for Super Eagles in AFCON Qualifiers

The Super Eagles need only one point from the two matches to qualify for next year’s AFCON.

  • Victor Osimhen, the reigning African player of the year, has returned with the Super Eagles for this month’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
  • Nigeria’s senior national team head coach Austine Eguavoen has also recalled Sadig Umar from Real Sociedad and Gabriel Osho from Auxerre.
  • Following CAF’s decision to award them three points from the abandoned game against Libya, the Super Eagles need just one point from these matches to secure a place in next year’s AFCON.
  • Additionally, Nasarawa United defender Victor Collins receives his first call-up and will compete with Bruno Onemaechi for the left-back position.
  • Osho replaces the injured Semi Ajayi, while Sadiq takes the place of Taiwo Awoniyi, who was omitted from the squad.

The Super Eagles will travel to Abidjan for the Matchday five clash against Benin Republic, scheduled at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday, November 14th. The three-time African champions will then host Rwanda on Matchday six at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
