Nigerian authorities have successfully rescued 58 kidnapped victims from a terrorist den in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The victims, including 23 females and 35 males, were abducted in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State and taken to forests in Birnin Gwari. The rescue operation was a result of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence gathered from locals .

The victims were handed over to the Kaduna State Government after their health conditions were examined. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, thanked the President and the National Security Adviser for their support, emphasizing that no ransom was paid for their release. He also stressed the importance of collective effort in ensuring security, saying “if we do not work together, it will be extremely difficult to succeed” .

The victims shared their harrowing experiences while in captivity, including being fed raw maize and wild fruits, and being subjected to humongous ransom demands. One victim, who spent a year and two months in captivity, expressed gratitude to the government and Almighty Allah for their release. Another victim, a female, recounted how she was abducted with her two children and left her husband in a pool of blood after he was shot by the terrorists .

Governor Uba Sani’s administration played a significant role in facilitating the rescue through non-kinetic measures, demonstrating their commitment to tackling insecurity in Kaduna State. The rescued victims were taken to the office of the National Security Adviser for debriefing and medical check-up before being handed over to the Kaduna State Government . This successful operation brings hope to the families of the rescued victims and highlights the importance of collaboration in combating insecurity.
