The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation has explained why it increased the 2025 State Budget from N936.1 billion to N979.2 billion. According to the Chairman of the Committee, Mrs. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, the increase is aimed at improving infrastructural development in the three senatorial districts of the State.
Okowa-Daramola stated that the House saw the need to give more attention to capital expenditure, which is a priority focus for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The N43.1 billion increase represents a 7.34% rise over the original proposed capital expenditure budget estimate forwarded to the House by the Governor.
The recurrent expenditure was also amended by N50 million from N348.717 billion to N348.767 billion, which is a 0.014% increase. Okowa-Daramola explained that the amendment was mostly done in the economic sector, particularly in the ministries of rural and urban roads, as well as riverine infrastructure.
