The Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, yesterday, expressed worry over the state of the nation, just as it urged President Bola Tinubu to tackle the current hardship faced by Nigerians.
The YCE, in a statement by its General Secretary, Oladipo Oyewole, said though it was hopeful that there will be a positive turnaround in the country, “there is, presently, a lot of suffering in the land.
“The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) remains optimistic about Nigeria’s potential for transformation. However, based on the limited information available on government initiatives and activities, it is evident that the country is currently experiencing significant hardship.
The YCE reiterates its firm stance that the well-being and quality of life of the masses should be the paramount concern. The current scarcity of electricity and the recent official announcement of an increase in the price of Petroleum Products (PMS) will only exacerbate the daily struggles faced by Nigerians.
Therefore, the Federal Government must urgently explore all avenues to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. Rather than relying on palliative measures, which often fail to reach those most in need, the government should focus on establishing effective governance structures that promote quality living and sustainable development.
The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) is urging President Bola Tinubu to address the immediate needs of Nigerians, who are currently facing significant hardships due to lack of electricity, fuel, and food. The YCE is calling for swift action to provide short-term relief to the people, while also pursuing long-term goals for Nigeria’s growth and development.
“The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) is deeply concerned about the widespread suffering of Nigerians, who are grappling with the absence of basic necessities like electricity, fuel, and food. We urge President Bola Tinubu to promptly reassess his priorities and address the short-term needs of the people, while simultaneously pursuing his long-term vision for Nigeria’s advancement.
As respected elders, we advocate for immediate measures to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, ensuring their welfare and enabling them to live in comfort and harmony. In our view, effective administrative action by the government is crucial to empower the masses and enable them to live with dignity and respect.”
