The Council of Yoruba Elders is urging President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action against the increasing aggression of marauding herdsmen in the South West zone of Nigeria. The elders are concerned about the rising cases of kidnapping, killing, and destruction of farm produce in the region over the past three months .

According to Dr. Victor Taiwo, the Secretary-General of the Council, the herdsmen have established several camps in different states, including 27 camps in Ondo State, 16 camps in Ekiti State, seven camps in Osun State, and five camps in Ogun State. The elders believe that previous security summits have not yielded desired results, and therefore, they are advocating for a fundraising effort to combat insecurity in the region.

Dr. Taiwo also expressed disappointment in President Tinubu’s response to the crisis, stating that it seems the president is prioritizing politics over the safety and security of his people. The elders are appealing to President Tinubu to take a more proactive approach in addressing the issue and protecting the Yoruba people.
