You’ve No Power to Order My Impeachment – Tinubu Tells Court

  • President Bola Tinubu has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking his impeachment over alleged rights violations.
  • The suit was filed by a legal practitioner, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, who alleged that Tinubu’s administration suppressed peaceful protests.
  • Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation argued that the plaintiff lacks the legal right to institute the action.

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking his impeachment over alleged rights violations. The suit, filed by Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, claims that Tinubu’s administration suppressed peaceful protests, constituting an impeachable offense.

However, Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) argued that the plaintiff lacks the legal right to institute the action. They also challenged the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter, stating that the suit was not initiated through the proper procedure.

The defendants further argued that the plaintiff failed to disclose any of his rights that were breached, and that he filed the action on behalf of “faceless citizens.” They maintained that only the person whose right was breached has the right to file an action before the court to seek redress.

Justice James Omotosho has adjourned the case until March 4, allowing the plaintiff’s counsel to respond to the preliminary objection by Tinubu and the AGF.
